What happened in the 2024 summer rental season on Cape Cod?

26 September 2024 - ORLEANS, MA - The 2024 summer season on Cape Cod continued the "new normal," said Jim Reese, CEO of We Need a Vacation, which has been tracking Cape Cod seasonal rental trends for several decades.

He noted that COVID lies in the rear view mirror and comparisons to the COIVD years no longer apply. Instead, what the region saw this year - a slick uptick from 2019 - represents the new  the post-pandemic era baseline.

Were there rental changes in 2024?

The most significant change that the data showed, according to Reese, lies in the shoulder seasons, not the peak summer. While the summer remained stable, the shoulder seasons saw growth and increased activity, more than 17% above the pre-pandemic year 2019.

What else was new in 2024?

The changing of generations continues to create more demand and expectations for amenities and interest beyond renting a place to serves as a beach base. People are looking for the ability to work remotely and use the vacation home in a broader way, with attractive outdoor use spaces and full inside amenities.
