12 January 2024 - ORLEANS, MA - Longtime store manager Jim Morton squeezes pass customers in the narrow aisles in the Baskin's Ace Hardware in its current location on Rt 28 in Olreans. Every square inch of the walls is filled with products. Since the store was built, the economy has changed, the population and the customer base has grown - and Baskins is getting ready to grow with with it. As they say, when one door closes another one opens, and when the Christmas Tree Shops, a beloved Orleans landmark, closed its store last summer, the door was left open for the hardware store to move in.
Baskins will be the new tenants at the former Christmas Tree Shops location at the split of Rte 28 and Rte 6A in Olreans. Store manager Morton says that the lower Cape's growing population and new residents mean more need for everything from plumbing and paint to electrical hardware and that meant Baskin's Ace Hardware Store needed to level up as well.
With a new space more than twice as big as the current store, Baskin's Ace is looking to double its staff. To pay homage to The Christmas Tree Shops there will be seasonal displays. Jim Morton is also hoping to be able to sell unique items that are not found elsewhere in Orleans. He says Baskin's Ace is all about giving back to the community that supports them, by donating proceeds to housing organizations and organizing fundraising events at the new location.
Watch the video above to hear Jim Morton speak about the plans he has for the Baskin's Ace Hardware Store and its customers.
