What can you do with old holiday lights?

19 December, 2024 - BARNSTABLE, MA. Don't toss those old tree lights - Barnstable County says there's a better way with the Holiday Strand Light Program. The Cape-wide program collects holiday lights for recycling across all 15 towns at all transfer stations, no dump sticker required.

What is the Holiday Strand Light Program?

For the past seven year, Barnstable County in partnership with AmeriCorps turns landfill-bound old holiday lights into materials for new electronics. The program collects holiday lights at transfer stations at all Cape Cod towns; after collection they go to a firm in Dennis where a recycling process strips metals out of the light strands for eventual use in electronics.

What does the program cost?

There is no cost to recycle lights. Anyone - with or without a dump sticker - can drop off old light strands in the special holiday light recycling bins any any of the region's 15 transfer stations.
