21 August 2024 — ORLEANS, MA — This year's edition of the Orleans block party spread out across the town's Main Street on a crisp August evening, featuring a break in the summer relentless heat and a chance to enjoy food, music, face painting, and a variety of community activities. The annual event began as an exercise in building community relationships by the Orleans Police Department and has grown into an anticipated tradition.
Orleans Chief Scott MacDonald says that his organization can never be successful without the trust and support of the community. An event like this provides a way to bring his staff into the community, encouraging engagement, and offering something the community enjoys. This type of positive interaction create a building block upon which strong relationships can grow.
The event has become something of a tradition in the town, with both visitors and residents from the region finding a reason to enjoy the evening streets, dance to some music, and snack on a treat or two.
