A new federal grant helps Cape Cod roll out programs to address the under-the-radar challenge of homeless youth and young adults.

"We are being given funds by the federal government through HUD d to implement this grant over a two year period . Our role at the Homeless Prevention Council is twofold; we will be working on a mobile outreach as well as a implementing a host home model ... we're really excited to see what both of these initatives do as we take them out the the entire Cape and Islands region."

What has happened to help homeless youths on Cape Cod?

A new grant might find paths to help homeless youth and young adults on Cape Cod. The Homeless Prevention Council and Barnstable County hope use $1.3M in federal grant dollars to roll out a mobile youth outreach program and a host homes model. 


How will the grant be used?

The grant will support a mobile youth outreach program to find and connect with youth and young adults who are homeless of at risk of becoming homeless. It will also support a host homes model where young people live within household while they finish school other otherwise prepare for their next stage.


Is there a problem with homeless youth on Cape Cod?

Young people are couch surfing or living in dangerous or unstable environments for many reasons and in far greater number than people may think. The problem has been made worse by the Cape's housing shortage and high cost of housing.
