Why is there a fall Special Town Meeting?

In a growing trend toward twice yearly town meetings, on October 16 Orleans residents have a chance to vote on 33 articles, including investment in the fire department, several energy and environment decisions, and a home rule petition addressing pesticide use.

Orleans, like many other municipalities, needs a fall town meeting to address issues and budget items which have come up since the Annual Town Meeting in the spring. Based on the structure of the town, many town issues require Town Meeting votes to move forward.

When is there Orleans fall Special Town Meeting?

This fall's special Town Meeting is October 16, 6 pm, at the Nauset Regional Middle School. The town expects the meeting will b completed in one evening.

What does the Orleans Special Town Meeting include?

The Orleans fall Special Town Meeting incorporates 33 articles - 32 issues and one article to adjourn. Among the key topics:

• Addition of 8 fire fighters
• Updated cost for a new ladder truck
• A pesticide reduction rule
• A solar energy project at the water treatment plant
• Budgeting for pond alum treatments
• EV charging stations
• Addition of part time sustainability manager
• Passage of the state's optimized stretch code
