A Historic Landmark: Harwich's First Firehouse

Situated at the gateway to Harwich Conservation Trust's Cold Brook Preserve, the property, owned by the town for nearly a century, was once the site of Harwich's inaugural firehouse. The restoration initiative, spearheaded by Harwich Fire Association and Harwich Conservation Trust, aims to bring new life to this historic building.

Affordable Workforce Housing

The project involves meticulous restoration of the exterior to its original state and the transformation of the upstairs into affordable apartments, addressing the pressing need for workforce housing on Cape Cod. The collaboration leverages the Community Preservation Act to fund these endeavors.

A Unique Visitor Experience

The restored firehouse will not only serve as an event space but also host educational programs and become a vital part of the visitor experience. The project managers envision holding events, educational programs, and creating a small event space showcasing an antique firetruck and firefighting memorabilia.

A Common Mission: Preserving Heritage

Harwich Fire Association and Harwich Conservation Trust, seemingly an unlikely pair, have found common ground in preserving history. Their joint efforts include not only restoring the firehouse but also creating an inviting trailhead for the Robert F. Smith Cold Brook Preserve.
