On your marks, get set, swim! Last weekend, the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition held its 25th annual "Against the Tide" swim race at Nickerson State Park.

"This is an event that brings people together from all walks of life, but mostly people who are here today and who come year after year are people who have been touched by breast cancer."

Cheryl Osimo
Executive Director, Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition

What is the "Against the Tide" swim?

14 JUNE 2024 - BREWSTER, MA -  More than two dozen people dove into Nickerson State Park's cliff pond last weekend in support of breast cancer prevention. The "Against the Tide" swim, in its 25th year at Nickerson State Park, raises money for the Massachusett Breast Cancer Coalition's community programming. The coalition educates people across the state on breast cancer awareness and prevention. Last weekend's event featured mile-long and half-mile-long swims and several running events, and participants created teams to raise money for the organization.

What impact did the event have?

As of June 17, the event raised $10,540 through the participants' donations. The organization also held an "Against the Tide" event in Hopkinton, Mass., which raised over $17,000. This money will go toward prevention awareness through brochures, videos and school presentations, among other things, said Cheryl Osimo, MBCC's executive director.

What is the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition?

MBCC is the only breast cancer organization that focuses on breast cancer prevention, and their goal is to spread awareness throughout Massachusetts and beyond. Their work includes webinars, community events like this one, synthesis of breast cancer research and statistics and research on possible environmental toxins like PFAS.
