What did AmeriCorps just do on Cape Cod?

This fall AmeriCorps celebrated its 30th birthday ... and enrolled its 25th Cape Cod cohort. The program's 579 Cape alumni say the program changed them, while community partners say the work done by AmeriCorps members impacts the Cape in positive and long-term ways. The national service program brings young people to the Cape for 11 months of natural resources, community, and environmental projects.

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps Cape Cod is part of a national service program. It brings young people to the Cape for 11 months of natural resources, community, and environmental projects. Cape Cod "graduated" its first year of alumni in 1999 and this fall swore in its 25th class. Members live in AmeriCorps housing on the Cape and tackle a variety of projects with a focus on the environment; many alumni have continued to live on the Cape, working in natural resources and related roles.

The federal agecy AmeriCorps celebrates its 30th birthday this year. It enrolls more than 200,000 participants across 36,000 locations annually to "improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering."
