Youth Art Exhibits Orleans Talents

A hundred young artists are showcasing their work throughout Youth Art Month at Orleans Town Hall.

What is the exhibit at Orleans Town Hall?

Austin Cameron, a senior at Nauset Regional High School, has his future carved out for him. For four years he has been taking a wood shop class as an independent study. This year he has been working on a hand-turned African zebra bowl. For over 12 hours Austin has lathed, turned and sanded a piece of maple wood donated to the class by a former student, and African zebra wood inherited from a bagpipe-maker.


What is Art Youth Month?

March is Youth Art Month and Orleans is celebrating by highlighting talented artists from three schools: Nauset Regional Middle School, Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School and Nauset Regional High School. Around 100 students have their paintings, wood works, jewelry and photographies on display untiul March 29 at Orleans Town Hall. Orleans Cultural Council is the sponsor and organizer for the event, and is celebrating the young artists as well as their teachers and curators of the exhibit.


What art is on exhibit?

On display next to Austin's bowl is a quilted wooden box, jewelry and figurines. Step into the hallway and the walls are lined with art works in different shapes, sizes and techniques, from paintings, cut out paper to photographies. Mady Enos, who has just been accepted into the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, is standing in front of her still life painting. She stills questions her skills and compares her art to others, she says, but that is also what is pushing her to get evolve her talent.
